Red Hawk

Red Hawk restaurant, near the UM campus in Ann Arbor, MI, opened in 1992. Cornerstone Design designed this project, which included renovations for the main floor dining room and kitchen, the basement prep kitchen, and a new historically sensitive facade.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar Restaurant was a complete renovation of an existing retail space in downtown Ann Arbor, to create a new restaurant with an airy, tropical atmosphere. Work included extensive structural modifications for a new mezzanine dining area, and new kitchen and restrooms. Zanzibar has since closed, and become Sava’s Restaurant, although much of the Zanzibar work remains intact.

Stucchi’s

Cornerstone Design has worked with Stucchi’s on several of their ice creamstores throughout southeast Michigan. The largest project involved a new building on a busy commercial corridor on the east side of Ann Arbor; the front part of the building was a Stucchi’s store, with the back part being an office tenant space. The store functioned for many years, before being sold and demolished to make room for a larger development. Also shown is a Stucchi’s retail space at Briarwood Mall, also now closed.

Chelsea Treehouse

Chelsea Treehouse is an indoor playground for children, where parents can relax with a cup of coffee and lunch, or work while their children play in a safe and fun environment. Cornerstone Design had previously renovated the building shell in the Clocktower Complex for landlord McKinley, and worked with the tenant to customize the interior space for their needs. The Treehouse has since moved to another location, also designed by CDI.

Perfect Blend

Perfect Blend coffee house wanted an upscale design on a limited budget. The space was long and narrow, with very high open ceilings. The budget was concentrated at the sales counter, using suspended “clouds” (referencing the bubbles in a frothy latte) to provide a more intimate feel.
